CLOTH REVIVAL

Welcome to my first blog under the heading CLOTH REVIVAL where I will share any upcycling projects or ideas I have, or just if I fancy having a chat 😊 There will be other sub headings. Recipes for example…..have you ever made yourself a real Cornish Pasty?  Try my recipe out…..Yummy

This is a linen M&S top I bought in a charity shop because I liked the colour and neckline.

I didn’t like the big frills on the sleeve though.

So I thought, M&S I can improve on your original design and took out my scissors                                                                                                                                                                This is the original sleeve.  The flounce fell mid forearm.

Way too fancy and impractical for me, so it just had to have the chop.

From this I created the lovely little short sleeve.

I had just had a delivery of washaway embroidery sheets to pack up for my next Sewing Street show that was going to concentrate on all things embroidery.  I thought, why not add a little something to this top.  I love all things dandelion so that was the route I took.

Firstly I prepared my design on one of the washaway sheets.  One for the front and one for the back.  I like to decorate the back of my projects.  It’s something you rarely get on commercially produced clothing.  Normally it is a great front then boring back.

I then hand stitched the embroidery using just white.  I didn’t want the embroidery to shout out at you, just compliment the lovely pastel blue.

Once I finished the embroidery, I wanted to add a little extra to the hem.  I used a ‘Hemstitch’ needle, also known as a ‘Wing’ needle and used a heritage stitch on my machine to stitch around the bottom hem.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.  You can leave a comment below to say whether you enjoyed it and whether you have been inspired to have a go yourself.

As always.....enjoy your makes :)
